Background
Hattersley Neighbourhood Partnership provide a co-ordinated approach to deliver local services to meet the needs of local people in an area that historically has suffered from lack of investment, poor housing, inadequate service delivery leading to poor attainment, poor health and low esteem.
Impact on different customer groups
- BME residents - lack of data to determine relevant actions necessary to promote good practise around consultation
- Young people - higher than average number of young people that are not in education or employment compared to the rest of Tameside
- Older people - isolation is a real problem for many older people living in Hattersley
Scope of the Equality Impact Assessment
The EIA will consider the core activities of the partnership to ensure the co-ordination and delivery of services across Hattersley, ensure that communication is delivered in an appropriate manner that keeps residents and partners informed and in addition that residents are fully engaged in a way that they can fully participate in the physical developments taking place in Hattersley over the next 5 - 7 years.
Existing data sources / evidence used
- Household Survey 2001 -
- Mori Household Survey 2003
- Mori Household Survey 2006

- We extract and analyse data from each of these documents to provide us with the groups/residents that we are required to work with e.g. by age, disability, gender, ethnicity. We have identified that the analysis to date has not provided us with evidence relating to sexual orientation or religion/belief although no projects or services are specific to these.
- With the exception of the Young People’s Consultation the other surveys and consultation events have been equally balanced across gender, age, ethnicity and disability.
Conclusions drawn from evidence
- Good communication practises are already in place that ensure all residents are well communicated to, and that all residents can actively and confidently engage in the consultation process
- A gap was identified in the availability of data about the BME community in Hattersley
