The awards ceremony for Entente Florale Europe 2011 took place in Slovenia on 16 September, at which Tameside was very proud to be honoured with the second highest award, a Silver Plaque. The award recognised the long term endeavours of the authority, community groups, residents and businesses in making Tameside a better place to live, work and visit.
On 1 August the judging party enjoyed a seven hour tour of the borough that passed through Hyde, Denton, Audenshaw, Droylsden, Dukinfield, Ashton and Stalybridge, with a lunch break at New Charter’s
head office.
The tour started in Hyde Park and the judges were so impressed with The Park Café that it received a discretionary award, the Dr Lucija Cikes prize. Praise was heaped on the project, and the award was made “for it's commitment, involvement and amazing results.”
Councillor Jackie Lane head of Heritage and Tourism said: “Our award in Entente Florale proves our commitment to the environment and improving the quality of life for our residents. This is not only through improvements to our parks, but through our community engagement initiatives, fostering community pride and, as the Park Café award has shown, our commitment to social inclusion.”
