Activity: New kerbside collection of plastic bottles and plastic film for recycling to be introduced in May 2003. The plastic film is sent to be recycled into plastic planks, which Tameside Council buy back and use to make benches and litter bins.

Progress: Kerbside collection of Plastic waste was rolled out in May as part of the Green Bin Scheme.

All plastic waste material collected is now being baled for recycling at the Ash Road Recycling Centre at a rate of 30 tonnes per month.

This baled waste is now transported to recycling specialists who are able to process the material ready for use by the Street Furniture Manufacturers.
