Tameside Gender Equality Scheme

Tameside Gender Equality Scheme

Annual Update of the Gender Equality Scheme

As a part of Tameside Council’s duties under the Equality Act 2006 the Gender Equality Scheme is updated annually to assess progress against the Gender Equality Action Plan. A copy of the 2007/08 update of the Gender Equality Action Plan is available via the link below.  Alternatively for a hard copy, or if you require help reading this document please contact the Policy Unit using the contact details at the bottom of the page.

All councils are required to produce a Gender Equality Scheme under the Equality Act 2006. The Equality Act 2006 amends the Sex Discrimination Act to place a statutory duty on all public authorities, when carrying out their functions, to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination and harassment
  • Promote equality of opportunity between men and women

The purpose of the Gender Equality Scheme is to set out the Council's approach to planning and delivering gender equality, and to evaluating progress towards the objectives set out in the Gender Equality Scheme Action Plan.
