Tameside Business Development Programme

Following the Kick-Off event, a development programme for Tameside businesses is running from Spring to Summer. This free series is designed to help you develop your business and improve the bottom line!

ICT tools to help business

Wednesday 20th February 2008 (Dukinfield Town Hall) 5.00 - 7.30pm

In this seminar, we’ll be looking at a number of tools which will help you analyse your business, spread your message and communicate effectively with your customers.

  • Analyse your business in Excel: We’ll be looking at databases, sorting and auto-filters, interactive analysis and charts.
  • Collaboration: We’ll look at how you can record your contact details in Excel, for mail-merged personalised letters using Word or personalised email using Outlook
  • Spreading the message: We’ll provide some hints and tips on PowerPoint, how you can set up “standard” emails and produce Electronic Brochures as ‘PDF’s.
  • Keeping in touch: We’ll explore the use of contacts, and how the “journal” can be used to show interactions. Powerful facilities within Outlook are often overlooked, and we’ll consider customised add-ons.
  • Internet “Baddies”: We’ll help you avoid Viruses and Spyware, Phishing and Spam

This event isn't a training session, it’s aimed at making you aware of possibilities. It’s intended as an interactive and ‘shotgun’ approach, with questions and participation throughout.

This is a vital event to help you fully engage the power of the technologies you already have. Normally part of an on-site consultation, this is a rare and valuable opportunity for the forward thinking business.

Presented by Colin Foster, Universal Solutions 4 Business. (colin@us4b.co.uk).

Marketing and e-Marketing

Wednesday 5th March 2008 (Dukinfield Town Hall) 5.00 - 7.30pm

If marketing has always seemed a little daunting, then it’s time to find out some of the basic ways in which any business can market themselves successfully, increasing their customer base.

This seminar leads you from Marketing to e-Marketing – showing how the offline and online “marketing mix” have to work together.

  • We’ll start by looking at where you are now, where you want to be and how you’re going to get there.
  • We’ll help you categorise your customers into groups, recognising what makes each group unique.
  • We’ll consider your competitors, their strengths and weaknesses – and what makes you different so that customers will buy from you.
  • We’ll show you techniques for turning features into benefits, and matching these to different groups. We’ll also touch on copywriting techniques using the AIDA principle.

You’ll see how to draw up an action plan for your marketing and e-marketing, identifying your target customers, the main benefits for each group and how are you going to reach them.

We’ll start looking at simple e-marketing techniques, such as building these keys messages into your website. You’ll share a personal case study - Richard has used “home-grown” techniques to reach the top of a million holiday cottages on Google. This isn’t a ‘techie-event’; it should be engaging & practical - aimed at helping you when you talk to web designers and other marketing experts.

Presented by Richard Nash.

Search Engine Optimisation

Wednesday 14th May 2008 (Dukinfield Town Hall) 5.00pm - 7.30pm

The best website in the world is no use to your business if nobody knows about it. Even if you’re not yet online, your customers are increasingly so – and they’re likely to be using search engines to find exactly what it is that you’re looking for.

Making a website search-engine ready might seem a “dark art” but in reality there are plenty of good practices and useful tips that can help optimise your website for search engines.

This seminar will discuss ethical Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and the fundamentals of ‘onsite’ optimisation that every Webmaster should consider when designing a site. Topics will include onsite structure and on page elements including header tags, copy text and the value and best use of the meta tags.

The seminar is targeted at business owners running their own website, web designers after tips and anyone with a web presence who is simply interested in learning about SEO.

Your Business Premises

Wednesday 11th June 2008 (Dukinfield Town Hall) 5.00pm - 7.30pm

One of the biggest personal assets that you are likely to acquire in your life is your house. In business, land and buildings will be one of the major overhead items in your accounts.

The importance of recognising and comprehending the pitfalls of commercial property acquisition and subsequent management are imperative to any size of business. For example how many of you possess a Fire Risk Assessment? Are you aware of the subsequent criminal liabilities if you do not have one; or if yours is insufficient?

The above serves to illustrate how one supposedly minor item could become a major problem very quickly.

Should I consider buying or renting? What are the pitfalls of both? What are my rights, duties and obligations? More over than not, my clients ask me “How do I make money from land and buildings?”

Commercial Property is not rocket science but, there are one or two pitfalls that could turn a very profitable business into a failing business within a short time period.

I look forward to seeing you on the day where the above and other points will be discussed.
