Tameside 2008 Music Festival kicks off in April with a performance by 'Manchester Camerata Orchestra' on Sunday 6th April. The concert series, aimed at opening up classical music to a whole new audience, will give local people a taste of the musical highlife...all at affordable prices - proving that classical music doesn't have to be elitist!

Sunday 13th April will see world-class brass band 'Black Dyke Band' take to the stage at Dukinfield Town Hall with some great brass band classics. The final concert will take place on Sunday 27th April when the Halle Choir will return to the Albion Church in Ashton for what promises to be a magical sell-out performance of some of the greatest classical vocal music ever written.

Councillor John Sullivan has been one of the driving forces behind the Series:

"Following the great success of last year's world-class concerts in Ashton, Dukinfield and Hyde, I am delighted and thrilled to announce the 2nd Annual Tameside Music Festival, which provides our citizens with the opportunity to experience the very best in musical entertainment at the lowest possible cost. Once again, we will be welcoming The Hallé Choir, Black Dyke Band and Manchester Camerata Orchestra, three great northern institutions representing a wide range of musical and historical tradition."

Manchester Camerata Orchestra

Manchester Camerata LogoManchester Camerata Orchestra will perform in Tameside for the second year running to mark the start of Tameside's 2008 Music Festival. This world-class orchestra will perform a selection of popular classical music in the wonderful setting of Hyde Town.

Black Dyke Band LogoFounded in 1816 in the Yorkshire village of Queenshead, The Black Dyke Brass Band is almost entirely comprised of local musicians . Nowadays the band are recognised as one of the best in the country and frequently travel the world playing to sell-out audiences wherever they go.

They are delighted to be returning to Tameside for the second year running. Cllr John Sullivan, who has been one of the driving forces behind the Tameside Festival said, " Black Dyke Band are one of the most well-respected brass bands in the country. I am delighted that so many residents of the Borough will be given the opportunity to see this world-renowned band at such an affordable price. They will literally raise the roof off Dukinfield Town Hall."

Led by Principal Conductor and Director of Music, Dr. Nicholas Childs, the Tameside programme will offer a unique selection of brass band classics including some of the old time favourites.


Halle Choir

Albion Church, Ashton-under-Lyne on Sunday 27 April, 7.30pm

Halle Choir LogoThe Halle Choir have enjoyed extraordinary success over the last few years and continue to win audiences over with their amazing talent and unique ensemble sound.

The Choir were founded in 1858 alongside the Halle Orchestra and is made up of 150 singers from across the northwest.

The Choir give around 20 concerts a year with the Halle orchestra at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall. Appearing with many international conductors and soloists, the Choir performs an exciting and varied repertoire of major choral and operatic works.

The concert will showcase some of the most popular classical vocal music within the wonderful setting of Ashton’s Albion Church. Detailed programme information to follow.
