The Tameside 2009 Annual Music Festival starts in April featuring a superb range of world-class Classical Concerts, supplemented this year by the inclusion of the highly respected and popular ‘Saddleworth Musical Society’ who will be making their debut performance for Tameside Council on Saturday 4th April.
The concert series, aimed at opening up classical music to a whole new audience, will give local people a taste of musical excellence, all at very affordable prices – showing that classical music doesn’t have to be elitist.
Sunday 19th April will see the return of the world famous ‘Black Dyke Band’ to the stage at Dukinfield Town Hall with their virtuoso performance of some great brass band classics. Also making their debut performance for Tameside Council on Sunday 26th April at The Albion Church in Ashton-under-Lyne is the wonderful ‘Halifax Choral Society’.
Come and hear some of the most beautiful, moving, dynamic and uplifting music you will ever hear played by arguably the finest professional chamber orchestra in the UK - the locally based ‘Manchester Camerata’ who will be performing at Hyde Town Hall on Sunday 10th May.
‘Shirley Harrison and Friends’ will present the final concert in the series, which will take place at Christ Church in Denton on Saturday 16th May, with a performance of ‘The Magic of the Musicals’.

I am proud this year, to welcome the legendary Halifax Choral Society to our borough for the first time, and we look forward with great excitement to hearing their wonderful interpretation of some of the world's finest choral works.

Saddleworth Musical Society 
Dukinfield Town Hall on Saturday 4 April, 7.30pm
Saddleworth Musical Society who pride themselves on their choral ability will be making their debut performance for Tameside Council to mark the start of Tameside’s 2009 Music Festival. The Society was formed in September 1958 and continues to be the only Society in the Saddleworth area performing a varied annual programme of choral and musical items with full orchestra.

Black Dyke Band

Founded in 1816 in the Yorkshire village of Queenshead, The Black Dyke Brass Band is almost entirely comprised of local musicians. Nowadays the band are recognised as one of the best in the country and frequently travel the world playing to sell-out audiences wherever they go.
Led by Principal Conductor and Director of Music, Dr. Nicholas Childs, the band are delighted to be returning to Tameside for the third year running and will perform some great brass band classics.

Halifax Choral Society 
Albion Church, Ashton-under-Lyne on Sunday 26 April, 7.30 pm
We welcome the renowned Halifax Choral Society to our borough for the first time, who will be performing some of the most popular classical vocal music within the wonderful setting of Ashton’s Albion Church.
The Halifax Choral Society is believed to be the oldest choral society in the world with an unbroken record of performance since its foundation in 1817. Plans are already being made to celebrate the Society’s bicentenary in fine style!
Over the years, the Halifax Choral Society has gained an enviable reputation and has performed the vast majority of the choral repertoire to the highest standards.

Manchester Camerata Orchestra 
Hyde Town Hall on Sunday 10 May, 3.00pm
Come and hear some of the most beautiful, moving, dynamic and uplifting music you will ever hear played by one of the finest chamber orchestras in the country, the local Manchester Camerata.
This world-class orchestra has been presenting live music for thirty-six years and has established an enviable reputation as an orchestra, which delivers high quality concerts. Manchester Camerata will be performing in Tameside for the third year running with some classical favourites by Mozart.

Shirley Harrison and Friends will present the final concert in the series with a performance of ‘Magic of the Musicals’.
Rev. Shirley Harrison is delighted to be able to provide a night of entertainment in her local community in Denton. Featuring performances from Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, the King and I and many other popular shows, the night promises to leave everyone tapping their toes to the "Magic of the Musicals".
