Conservation Day - Balsam Bashing

Our Countryside sites are under attack from a pink monster called Himalayan balsam. This tall plant, which has spread from gardens, is swamping areas of the natural flower communities in our woods and wetlands along the Etherow Valley, and threatening the insects that need these plants. All that ‘bashing ‘ entails is pulling up and composting young plants before they flower and set seed.
