2011 Tameside Diwali Celebrations

Starting at 4.30pm outside Ashton Town Hall with the official Blessing Ceremony followed by the switching-on of the Diwali lights.
The Lantern parade will depart at approximately 5pm and make its way to The Indian Community Centre, Union Road, Ashton where the main celebrations will take place.
At 5.30pm a variety of performances will take place outside The Indian Community Centre including music and dance, with traditional food, craft activities including henna hand painting, face painting, badge making, nail art and rangoli workshop (ancient Indian folk art), yoga workshops, stalls and displays inside.
The event will conclude at 8.30pm with a fantastic firework finale!
On the lead up to the main celebrations, free lantern making workshops will be held at Hurst Library, Ashton (0161 330 3750) on Saturday 1 October from 10.30am – 12.30pm and at Tameside Central Library, Ashton (0161 342 2030) on Saturday 8 October from 10.30am – 12.30pm.
On Friday 14 October from 10.30am – 12 noon, join Raman Patel at Stalybridge Library for an informative and informal talk about the Hindu Festival of Diwali. Contact Stalybridge Library to reserve your free place 0161 338 2708.
