Individual Grants
Tameside Sporting Individuals Fund
Grant aid for sports performers under the age of nineteen, residing in the Tameside area and in full time education. The funding can be used towards the cost of travel, accommodation, equipment, entry fees and specialist coaching when playing representative sport. The maximum grant is £400 per individual within each financial year.

The Greater Manchester Sports Fund
Grants from £50 up to a maximum of £750 can be applied for during a 12 month period. If you are successful in your application but are awarded less than the maximum £750 you may be eligible to apply for further funding within the 12 month period providing your previous grant has been spent in full and appropriate receipts and End of Grant forms have been satisfactorily completed.
Mainstream applications for amounts over £250 take up to 16 weeks to process from the receipt of a complete application, so please be sure to apply in plenty of time.
Criteria
- The fund is open to athletes performing at County level or above, and who have the potential to progress further given the appropriate financial support to access training and trials
- Athletes must reside in one of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester
- The Fund is open to athletes from all sports
- Priority will be given to those athletes who are struggling to reach their potential due to a lack of financial support, and who are not in receipt of grants from elsewhere
- The fund will be open to young sports men and women between ages of 12 and 21 years at the time of submitting an application. (Exceptions to this will be for those sports where athletes are encouraged to specialise at a younger age, e.g. Gymnastics)
- The Fund is open to all able bodied and disabled athletes who fulfil the above criteria
Applications must be validated by a letter of support from the appropriate National Governing Body or signed off by a nominated member of your local Sports Development Team.

SportsAid Grants
SportsAid provides financial support to over 1,000 young athletes each year to encourage them to reach a top-level while keeping them engaged in sport. Sports Aid relies on NGBs to nominate their best athletes for a sporting grant. National and regional panels create a list of nominees to be considered for the grant. National and regional panels then establish priority of applications forms based on comments made by the NGBs. Funds are then awarded to successful applicants.
Who is eligible to apply?
- British competitors living and training in England aged 12 - 18 years (able-bodied), with no age limit for disabled-bodied athletes. Must not earn over £8,000 a year.
- Nominations must be made via NGBs.

Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS)
TASS is a government-funded scheme that aims to bridge the gap in sport’s talent development pathway between junior representative sport and world-class levels for the most talented 16 - 25 year old sports people. It represents a unique partnership between sport and higher and further education and is structured to help aspiring young sports people maintain a sensible balance between academic life or employment whilst competing and training as a performance athlete. There are two types of TASS awards - Bursaries and Scholarships.
Who is eligible to apply?
- Athletes must hold a GB passport and be eligible to compete for GB in their sport.
- Athletes must reside at an English address or be studying at an English HEI.
- Applicants must be a maximum of 24 years on 31st August to be eligible for funding.
- Applications must be made via NGBs.

GMPA Coaching Legacy Fund
The GMPA Coaching Legacy Fund is available to fund coaching fees incurred by talented young athletes to access elite coaching. Elite coaching is defined as a coach qualified as a level 3 and above or recognised by the sports national governing body as coaching at an elite level. A maximum of £200 is available per applicant per year to enable talented young people aged 25 or under to pay for elite coaching.
The fund will be run over three rounds this year and quarterly for the next two years. Deadlines and panel dates for this year's applications are below:

Athlete Grants
The Ron Pickering memorial Fund invites applications for grants from young athletes who are in education and may need financial help towards training or provision of equipment. The Fund is dedicated to assisting aspiring young athletes who have shown by their attitude and dedication that they posses the qualities will ensure the growth and protection of sport.
England school finalists and representatives at county level or above aged between 15 and 23 years.

Legacy Trust UK
This Trust aims to support a wide range of innovative cultural and sporting activities for all, which celebrate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and which will leave a lasting legacy in communities throughout the United Kingdom.
The Trust has an initial endowment of £40 million. It has committed to match this original funding and has set itself a target of £80 million being available for legacy projects over its lifetime. Legacy UK also supports The Wave of Friendship Programme. Applicants can apply for bursaries of up to £500 to cover travel, accommodation and other costs involved in the exchange of volunteers between Scotland and London in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Innovative partnerships between organisations or individuals working in different fields will be particularly encouraged.
The types of organisations eligible to apply include charitable, voluntary, public or private sectors.
The Trust allocates the majority of its funding to national and regional structures for umbrella projects/themes for Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the nine English regions. Potential applicants should contact the administrators in their region for deadline information.

Dickie Bird Foundation
This scheme provides support for individuals throughout Great Britain with the aim of helping disadvantaged young people (under the age of 18) to participate in sport, to the best of their ability, in the sport of their choice, irrespective of their social circumstances, culture or ethnicity. By participating in sporting activities, it is hoped that health will be improved, physical education will be advanced, and chances both inside and outside sport will be enhanced. Eligible costs include sports kit, coaching and training.
Applicants can apply for between £100 and £5,000, although more may be given in certain circumstances. The entire project costs may be funded, however, this depends on the type of project and the grant amount required. If more than £5,000 is required, match funding must be provided
A grant will only be considered if the applicant is unable to raise the necessary finance required as a result of impoverished circumstances. Finance should thus be unable to be raised through other means. Every application is given fair and equal consideration
Applicants must be aged under 18 years at the time of application and involved in sport. Applications may be submitted at any time.

Club/Group Grants
Sport England - Inspired Facilities
The Inspired Facilities fund is part of the Places People Play legacy programme that is bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country.
Investment will be available to breathe new life into tired facilities that can be unattractive to sports participants, expensive to run and difficult to maintain, putting these clubs right back at the heart of their local communities. There will also be money available to convert existing building into venues that are suitable for grassroots sport.
At least £35 million of the funding will go to community and voluntary organisations, through grants of between £20,000 and £50,000. The remaining money will be open to a wider group of organisations, including councils and schools, with grants of up to £150,000 available.

Community Foundation for Greater Manchester
(Grass Root Grants)
Criteria includes:
- You are a not-for-profit, third sector voluntary or community group, active in their local community for not less than 12 months prior to 06 Nov 2009
- You have an evidenced income of less than £30,000 per annum, taken as an average income for the last three financial years (or over the life of the group if it is less then three years old).
- You are volunteer led (i.e. with largely volunteer based input)
- You are connected with and/or meeting the needs of the local community
- You have a governing document that has as a minimum the name, aim/purpose, objects, a dissolution clause for the organisation, a list of Trustees/Committee members, and Trustees/Committee member signatures

Biffaward - Small Grants Scheme
The Small Grants Scheme enables groups to quickly access lower levels of funding in order to improve the quality of life in their community. The aim is to make it easier for small groups to access funding in their communities.
Projects which have the primary aim of improving an amenity located within 10 miles of a Biffa operation and which will have the end benefit of fostering vibrant communities by improving the environmental, economic or social circumstances of a community.

Football Foundation Grants
The Foundation receives money from the very top of the professional game and also from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through Sport England. It then uses this money to leverage even more partnership funding, to deliver a programme of new and improved community sports facilities in towns and cities across the country.
The Foundation also funds projects that increase participation in football and other sports and address some of society’s key challenges, such as social inclusion, health, education and equalities.

Youth Cricket Grants
Non-Turf Pitch Grants
The Lord’s Taverners mission is to give young people, particularly those with special needs, a sporting chance. This is achieved by providing opportunities for young people, able bodied or those with disabilities, under the age of 25 to participate in sport and recreation.
The Lord’s Taverners aim to encourage greater youth participation in cricket at grass roots level, and provides grants towards the installation of non-turf pitches and netting. These grants must be approved by the Cricket Development Officer at the local County Cricket Board.
Youth Cricket Competitions and Coaching Grants
Applications will be considered for grants towards the cost of youth cricket festivals/tournaments/regional competitions and for youth special coaching schemes. Grants towards refreshments, trophies, overseas tours, clothing or individual/team sponsorship are not available.

Cash 4 Clubs
This scheme provides funding to grassroots sports clubs throughout the UK. Cash 4 Clubs is a corporate-initiated sports club scheme, funded by Betfair in partnership with SportsAid. The scheme is part of a community investment programme in local grassroots sport, whilst also building upon a successful ‘Charity of the Year’ partnership with SportsAid.
Cash 4 Clubs offers grants ranging from £250 to £1,000, awarded throughout the year. The scheme is available to all community sports clubs based in the UK and registered with their sports’ National Governing Body or local authority.

Rugby Football Foundation - Groundmatch Grants
The Groundmatch Grant Scheme provides easy access to grant funding for capital projects that contribute to the recruitment and retention of community rugby players in England.
The grant can be used for pitch facilities, clubhouse facilities and equipment.
The minimum grant available is £1,500 and the maximum is £6,000.
Applicants will have to fund 50% of the total costs of the project from their own or other sources, and Rugby Union clubs at level five and below in the English Clubs Rugby Union can apply.
Applications can be made at any time and will be assessed at regular intervals.

The Woodward Charitable Trust (UK)
The Woodward Charitable Trust is inviting applications from UK registered charities working with or in the areas of:
- Social and ethnic minority groups
- Prisoners and ex-offenders
- Homelessness
- Violence and abuse
- Arts outreach
- Disability
- Environment
The fund offers grants of up to £5,000 through their small grants scheme and grants of over £5,000 through their large grants scheme.
The fund also offers grants of up to £1,000 for summer play schemes for children between the ages of 5-16 to UK charities with a turnover of less than £100,000 a year. Priorities will be given to; small local play schemes that provide a wide-ranging programme of activities; schemes that involve a large number of children; catering for those from disadvantaged backgrounds or have a disability; that work with children from a range of backgrounds, abilities and race; where past users are encouraged to come back and help as volunteers.

National Hockey Foundation
The Foundation is a charitable trust originally established to develop and operate the hockey stadium at Milton Keynes. It is, and has always been, completely separate from the Hockey National Governing Body. The Foundation hopes to be able to give financial support to the development of sport, particularly at youth level and in Milton Keynes.
The Foundation primarily makes grants to a wide range of organisations that meet one of the Foundation's chosen areas of focus as follows:
- Young people and hockey.
- Young people and sport in Milton Keynes.
- Enabling the development of hockey at youth or community level.
- Smaller Charities.
There is no limit on the amount of funding an organisation can request. However, the Foundation does not generally award grants for less than £10,000 or more than £75,000.
The following are eligible for funding:
- Organisations working with young people (approximately defined as individuals under 21 years old).
- Medium to long-term projects (ie over one year) or for shorter-term one-off projects. A maximum limit of three years of support can be provided (either an instalment grant or three separate applications).
- Specific projects and not for general donations.
- Refurbishment costs eg equipment purchase, and for a new construction.
- Training/retraining, educational equipment, activity- based learning, sports equipment, transport and occasionally costs of project staff. If requesting salary funding, applicants should submit a job description for the post.
- Part of the cost of a project. In appropriate circumstances, the Trustees may consider offering a loan to support particular projects.
Grants can be awarded to clubs, limited companies, registered charities and other bodies in England. Applications that are supported by England Hockey are favoured.
