How do I go about buying out my ground rent?
In certain areas the Council has already made offers to ground rent lessees, and will be continuing this scheme in other areas in the future. If you wish to buy out now you should write to the Estates and Valuation Service, Council Offices, Wellington Road, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 6DL,who will calculate a figure and make you a written offer.
Does the Council own the ground around my house?
The Council would only own the ground on which your house is situated if you have a long lease, which names the Council as the freeholder. If you are not sure whether this is the case you should contact the Council's Land Records Office (Terrier) on
0161 342 3402/3403 who will verify the situation.
What are my rights when an unscrupulous firm is persecuting me for my ground rent?
The position between you and your landlord will be set down in the lease document, which is part of the Title for your house. The Council is not in a position to give advice on such leases. We would suggest that you consult a solicitor privately or seek advice from Citizen Advice Bureau.
I am in arrears with my ground rent, How can I make an arrangement to pay?
Assuming the Council is the freeholder, you can make arrangements to pay with the Income Section on
0161 342 2323. If the freehold owner is not the Council then you should get in touch with the firm who has sent you the bill.
