Walking
Walking Does Wonders!
Good bone strength, posture and balance can all be achieved by undertaking strength-type activities. Walking is one of the best exercises you can undertake to increase the strength of your bones. Walking can be done anywhere; with all age groups and can cost nothing. So, get on your comfy shoes and enjoy walks, through Country Parks, on local trails or even round the block where you live.
Active travel to and from work and using the stairs instead of the lift can make big differences to your energy levels and the way you feel. Parking further away or getting off the bus one stop earlier can be an easy start to making a lot of difference to your fitness levels.
Health experts agree that 30 minutes of activity that makes you slightly warmer and breathe more heavily on 5 or more days of the week is what most adults should aim for. This does not have to be continuous splitting your 30 minutes into three ten minute brisk walks can help improve your fitness just as much.
Going for a quick walk at lunchtime will not only get you a tasty sandwich, as you will also be helping to control your body weight, lowering your blood pressure and enhancing your health and wellbeing.
Countryside Health Walks have been designed to help you get and stay fit by enjoying short easy walks in the local countryside.
