Tameside MBC welcomes all Landlords to become a member of the Tameside Landlord Accreditation Scheme

The purpose of the Landlord Accreditation Scheme is to promote good housing conditions and good management practices for Private Rented Properties, thereby making them more attractive to potential clients.

Greater Manchester and all local authorities have now adopted one set of standards to promote consistency across borough boundaries. Tameside is now joining this family. By joining the scheme landlords will receive a number of benefits that will assist with the management of their portfolio. 

Tameside Landlord Accreditation Scheme will provide direct links to staff from a number of agencies offering assistance on a wide range of housing issues. This is designed to ensure landlords and tenants get the most from what is available through Tameside MBC and its partners.

Benefits of the scheme will include:

  • Market advantage when letting out your property.
  • 10% discount on HMO licensing in Tameside.
  • Professional advice & assistance on landlord and tenant law and tenancy contract issues.
  • Ability to use the Tameside Landlord Accreditation Logo on advertising, publicity, stationery, etc.
  • Training provided by established experts in the property market.
  • Specialist & professional advice regarding the condition of a rented property from the Housing Standards Team at Tameside MBC.
  • Free Landlord Handbook.
  • List of contractors approved by Tameside Trading Standards.
  • Invitations to attend the Landlords Forum. Including presentations/discussions on matters relating to the private rented sector and opportunities to meet fellow landlords.
  • Invitations to attend free/ subsidised seminars/training sessions on issues that affect the private rented sector.
  • Opportunity to advertise accredited private rented properties free of charge on the Homes 4 Rent website. (Currently under construction)
  • Free Landlord’s Guide to Electrical Safety 

Tameside Landlord Accreditation Scheme is working in partnership with Tameside Housing Advice. By letting properties through Tameside Housing Advice, Accredited Landlords may also be able to access direct payments of housing benefit and the access to the bond scheme.

 The Tameside Bond Scheme provides a cashless bond, which acts as a guarantee to the landlord providing an important element of security against damage and rent arrears (up to an agreed maximum amount). Participation in the Bond Scheme also means that landlords or letting agents are not required to join any of the three national Tenancy Deposit Protection schemes.

Please note that any incentives or benefits will only be available once an application is accepted onto the Accreditation Scheme. It is easy to start reaping the rewards from the Tameside Accreditation Scheme. The application pack can be downloaded using the link below.

You can also send your details to Housing Services or by requesting it direct from Housing Services by calling 0161 342 3633.

Once the application is completed please send it to us at the following address and please include all relevant certificates/ information as requested on the form: Your application will be processed and relevant certificates checked. The scheme allows for the Council to inspect up to 10% of the total number of properties in your portfolio situated within the borough; these will be chosen at random by us.

The condition of the properties must meet the requirements of the code of standards which will be provided with the application pack. If the properties do not meet the required standard you will be informed of where the properties are failing and you will be given the chance to rectify the deficiencies. 

Once the properties are inspected and any repairs carried out to the satisfaction of the scheme, you will become an accredited member. At this point you will be able to take advantage of the incentives and benefits offered by the scheme. You will receive a certificate to display confirming that you are an accredited Landlord.

Landlords of the Tameside Landlord Accreditation Scheme will receive a vinyl sticker and will be placed in the front window of all inspected properties to prove to all potential tenants that property meets the councils coded of standards and you are a reputable landlord. Only 10% of your portfolio is inspected for the purpose of accreditation, but to receive a sticker on all of your properties you need to contact the Landlord Accreditation Team. This facility is subject to resources.
