Supporting People LogoThe Supported Housing Register was set up to help people living in supported housing services (sometimes known as hostels) to get better access to move-on accommodation and get their own flat or house.

As from the 1st October 2008, the register will be run by New Charter Housing Trust on behalf of the Council.

Most of Tameside’s Housing Associations are signed up to it. This means that they all make up to half of their properties available to people living in supported housing.

Support workers work with individuals to help them get the skills they need to live in their own flat.

When the support worker and the service user agree that he/she has the skills to move on, then the support worker puts his/her name forward to go on the register.

The involvement of the support worker means that Housing Associations feel confident that the person is ready to move on.

There is no set waiting time as it depends on how many properties are available at any given time.

Anyone over 16 and living in supported accommodation can be referred.
