Tameside Supporting People Strategy
Introduction
This is Tameside’s second Supporting People Strategy. It is for the financial year 2010-11. The first strategy covered the period from 2005-2010. In October 2007 the Audit Commission assessed that the Supporting People programme in Tameside was delivering excellent performance, with excellent prospects for improvement.
Tameside is one of only seven Administering Authorities to achieve this level of performance. It places the Tameside programme in the top 5% performers in England. The report said, “Supporting People funding has made a significant difference to the lives and the choices available to some of the borough’s most vulnerable people”
Supporting People funded services help people who are at risk of losing their home, or who need help to cope with the demands of living independently and people who need help to settle into a new home following a crisis. In Tameside the Supporting People programme supports almost 5000 people at any one time. This represents 2.3% of the local population. Older people form the largest age group in receipt of Supporting People funded services. Tameside commission these services from a wide range of providers including the Council, housing associations, voluntary and community sector organisations. These services are provided on a contractual basis. A summary of the type of services provided and for whom is set out below.

- A focus on prevention services and an increase in services delivered to people in their own home
- Demonstrable improvements in service users’ lives
- Working with service providers to improve access and choice, performance, quality and outcomes
