Success stories

Jo

Jo was being made homeless due to personal circumstances. A Housing Support worker helped him to liaise with Housing Options and New Charter Housing to find a wheelchair adapted property. Jo was found a suitable property, which enabled him to participate in the community and to become more independent.

Frank

Frank was in danger of losing his home because he had been unable to carry out repairs and his other responsibilities for maintaining his tenancy. A Housing Support worker provided intensive help and support to improve this situation, which resulted in Frank being able to obtain the additional services he needed and to have adaptations made to the property.

Gail

Gail was in debt with various organisations. A Housing Support worker helped her to set up payment plans to reduce the arrears and to prevent court action being taken against her. Since the involvement of Housing Support, Gail has maintained her tenancy and is happy to be in her home.

Edward

Edward was supported to move into a new tenancy by a Housing Support worker. Edward lacked confidence and self esteem and needed regular contact with other people. Housing Support identified several possibilities for working in different environments and explored suitable voluntary work placements with Edward. Edward now has a job. He has developed his skills, made friends and became much more confident.

Maria

Housing Support worked with Maria who is deaf and whose first language is British Sign Language. Maria needed help when she fell behind with her rent and was at risk of losing her property through a Possession Order. The housing association got in touch with the Housing Support worker regarding Maria’s housing benefit payments, as they had ceased. Housing Support liaised with all parties and completed the relevant paperwork and housing benefit was backdated. This resulted in the rent arrears being cleared (which stopped the Possession Order and court proceedings) and Maria maintaining her tenancy.
