History of Hyde Photos - Hyde Chapel
Hyde Photographic History

Hyde Chapel in about 1910
Hyde Chapel was first established in 1708, the original building was enlarged in 1767, but was demolished after a new building, shown here, was erected in 1848.
Nonconformity was therefore well represented in Hyde long before any Church of England churches were built.
One of the best known ministers at Hyde was Henry Enfield Dowson who served from 1867 to 1925. He took an active part in the life of the town and was particularly keen on promoting local sports and the Liberal party.
