Great Norbury Street showing St. George's Church
St. George's was the first Church of England Church in Hyde built in 1831-32.
Previously the town had been in the parish of Stockport but the massive population growth of the early 19th century meant that a new church was required. George Clarke, lord of the manor of Hyde, who was then living in America contributed some of the costs. The church was consecrated on 20th October 1832.
