Britain in Bloom Awards for Tameside
Tameside Council is celebrating after it was given a prestigious prize at the National Britain in Bloom competition.
At the awards ceremony in Perth on Thursday, 21st September 2006, the Greater Manchester borough was awarded a Silver Gilt in the highly competitive "City" category. Tameside was up against Aberdeen, Oxford and the London Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
It is the first time that the Greater Manchester borough has been in the National Finals, with the honour coming in only the fourth year that Tameside has been taking part in the competition.
The National honour came hot on the heels of Tameside's success in the Regional competition, where the Borough won the North West's "City" category. This result was announced at the awards ceremony in Blackpool on Friday, 15th September, and it's the second year running that Tameside has lifted the top prize.
Project Head for Sport and Leisure, Cllr Dave Sweeton said: "We are absolutely delighted for everyone who has played a part in this competition".
"Britain in Bloom isn't just about flowers - it's about creating an environment that we are all proud of".
"Council staff, local businesses, residents and community groups have all helped Tameside win this award and I would like thank everyone for their hard work and dedication".
