What is 'Tameside in Bloom'?
Our aim is to make Tameside a better place for everybody by improving the appearance of the borough and by encouraging communities and businesses in the borough to work in partnership. As well as improving Tameside as a place to live and work, we also aim to help encourage tourism to the borough.
This is all achieved by producing quality and innovative floral displays and appropriate and sustainable permanent planting schemes whilst dealing with litter, graffiti and vandalism promptly and regularly.
Clear evidence has been received from residents and businesses in the borough which shows that efforts of Tameside in Bloom are welcomed and applauded. In 2005 the Council conducted its bi-annual survey of the Citizen's Panel.
- 94% had noticed the floral displays around the borough
- 75% thought the floral displays made the borough look better
The results of the 2007 survey show that the appreciation of these efforts is sustained.
- 93% had noticed the floral displays around the borough
- 97% thought the floral displays made the borough look better
In recent years Tameside has witnessed record levels of investment. This can be seen in the numbers of companies locating into Tameside from outside the borough and the numbers of jobs that they have created. Since 2004, when Tameside began entering the Britain in Bloom competition as a borough, 54 companies have moved into the borough, creating 2,544 jobs. There can be no doubt that Tameside in Bloom has played a part in making Tameside an attractive location for businesses.
