It has been agreed that the following actions will be given top priority for the first year of the plan's life and progress towards their achievement will be published annually.

5. Priority Actions for 1998-1999

Education and Awareness Raising Encourage Tameside schools to participate in the Eco-Schools project, in association with the Tidy Britain Group.
Poverty and Community Safety Provide strategic direction for Tameside's Community Safety Partnership through the preparation of a Community Safety Plan.
Health Develop locality approach to joint planning and service delivery, (Local Health Partnership) beginning with a pilot in the Ashton Renewal Area.
Pollution Prepare a review of air quality across the borough including an inventory of potentially polluting sources including industry and road traffic.
Built Environment Greater preference to be given to the re-use and development of "brownfield" sites, by maximising the rate of derelict land reclamation.
Seek to minimise the number of "greenfield" sites released for development. Maintain and increase the amount of green space within the existing urban area.
Natural Environment Improve access [to the local countryside] for people with a disability.

Transport To prepare the Local Transport Plan.
Waste Management Promote home composting and wormeries for putrescible and garden waste.
Green Business and Work Support and resource Community Economic Development.
Energy Raising the profile of energy efficiency with seminars and publicity campaigns. Strategic targeting of homes to achieve an overall reduction in energy consumption
