Care Leavers Grant while at University

Social Workers and Personal Advisors can assist young people in finding accommodation whilst at University and in non-term time if the young person wishes for them to do so. 

The Leaving Care Service will pay rent for the duration of the course equivalent to the rent charged in the Halls of Residence.

A laptop may be provided and up to £250 per year for books and equipment. Leaving Care will provide help with travel costs to and from University at holiday time.

Young people should be allowed to access their Leaving Care Grants for items such as bedding and kitchen equipment if necessary.

Once a young person graduates they should be awarded a £1000 incentive payment as a "Well Done" present.
