Manchester Regiment Archives
A copy of the catalogue for the Manchester Regiment Archive is available via the A2A website.
The following list is an outline of the classes of records we hold. The Public Record Office still holds most War Diaries and trench maps.
In addition to these records, the Local Studies and Archives Centre has purchased "Soldiers Died in the Great War" on CD ROM. This contains the complete set of all 81 volumes with software that allows searching of every element in each record. Searches can be executed for Regiments, Battalions, surnames, christian name(s), initial(s), born (town), born (county), enlisted (town), enlisted (county), regimental number, rank, killed in action, died of wounds, died, theatre of war of death, date(s), supplementary notes. This software cannot be run over the Internet. The CD ROM can be consulted at Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre.

Photographs
The Manchester Regiment archives contain a wide range of photographs and photograph albums. Most photographs of individuals are of officers or have been donated by members of the public - in which case they are often dentified. The group photographs are usually of platoons or sports teams, and unfortunately individuals are usually unidentified. There is a very good selection for the Boer War. Visit Manchester Regiment Archives on the Boer War for a display of examples from the collection.
