What is available at the Centre?
Enlarger photocopier
Photocopiers which can copy and enlarge written material are available in all the main Tameside Libraries.
Large Print Books
Varied selections of large print books are available for loan throughout all Tameside Libraries.
Children's books and story tapes
For visually impaired children, there are collections of audio books on cassette in all the main libraries in Tameside. Some libraries also have a small selection of large print children's books. Please check your local library.
Information
A wide range of information is available about visual impairment issues, services and agencies via all Tameside libraries. Information is widely available on the internet This information can be made available in large print or on audio cassette.
Books, magazines and information on tape
A quality collection of audio books ("talking books") on cassette and music on compact disc are available for loan at most libraries in Tameside. Customers who are registered blind or partially sighted do not pay loan charges for these materials at any Tameside Library. Magazines and official information on cassette are available at Dukinfield library.

Specialised equipment
Equipment for visually impaired people is available for use at Dukinfield library. This equipment consists of such as:
Eezee reader/ Eezee Writer
- a hand held scanner which enlarges published text or your own writing onto a television screen. The Eezee writer helps you to write by showing an enlarged image of your writing (as you write) on to a television screen.
PC/Scanner
You can scan or type text into the PC, which can then be edited and printed out in large print.
Supernova
will magnify what is on the computer screen by up to 32 times, and speak what is written on screen.
Cicero
will read a document to you through a computer via a scanner.
Large Keyboards
that have keys ten times larger than a standard keyboard are available at all libraries.
Library Club
A Library Club for visually impaired people is held every third Tuesday of the month from 1.30 - 3.30p.m at Dukinfield library. Admission is free.
Print Conversion Service
Typed or printed documents and computer disks can be converted into large print. They can also be recorded as spoken word onto audio cassette or put onto floppy disks. Please ask the Dukinfield Library staff for details.
Talking teletext
A machine which converts teletext from television into speech.
And don't forget
All Tameside libraries, including the Home Library Services have materials available for visually impaired people such as large print books, music and talking books.
Who can use the service?
The service is provided for anyone who is blind, partially sighted or has a visual impairment. Anyone who is not able to easily read a standard size print is welcome to use the service.
How do I join?
If you are already a member of Tameside Library Service you need do nothing. If you are not, simply pop along to the centre with proof of your ID and you can join.
Opening times
The Centre for the Visually Impaired opening hours are the same as Dukinfield Library. Equipment is available for use up to half an hour before closing time.
