We’re inviting all children to join Raj, Belle and Louis - the Quest Seekers - in their search for the Golden Book during this Summer's Reading Challenge. The Quest Seekers challenge starts on July 4th and runs through the school holidays.  It is free to take part, and there are rewards and weekly epic adventures to help everyone complete the challenge.

Nextstep offer free information and advice on learning and work. Whether employed or unemployed, Nextstep can offer something. If you are aged 20 or over they can help you with your CV, interview skills, job applications and much more.  Nextstep hold weekly sessions in many of Tameside's Libraries.

Tameside Libraries are running 5 new Book Time For Your Self Clubs for people over 55.  Club members sit back and relax for an hour while books, short stories and poems are read aloud, then talk about what they have just listed too. There is no need to read anything in advance, members just relax over a cup of tea and join in as much as they like.  The weekly clubs are held in Mossley, Hyde, Dukinfield, Haughton Green and Stalybridge.

Tameside Libraries, Derbyshire Libraries and Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Mental Health Service have joined together to offer a Books on Prescription scheme via GPs and other health professionals.  A list of 50 high quality self-help books recommended by mental health practitioners has been created.  These will be used to help people with common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.  When patients bring their book prescription to their Tameside or Glossop area Library they will be able to borrow or reserve the book free of charge.  Books on Prescription is a confidential service.

Tameside Local Studies and Archives Centre have organised a series of events for local historians and people who want to learn more about their local area.  Most events take the form of talks given by visiting speakers. They are free and refreshments are provided.

Tameside Libraries are part of an exciting new venture! Ask About Business is a new partnership between eleven library authorities in Greater Manchester, Blackpool, and Blackburn with Darwen. Led by Manchester Library and Information Service, Ask About Business provides access to information through Libraries to support: Pre-Start and new businesses; Existing business; Jobseekers; Consumers; Inventors; Business students. In Summer 2008 we asked you to send us pictures of yourselves reading our books in unusual places.  We are pleased to announce that the winners have been chosen and the photographs we received will soon be on display in Tameside;s Libraries. We run Readers' Groups all over Tameside and always welcome new members. We also run a group for people who are interested in crime novels, gay and lesbian literature, and for people who are visually impaired.  Join a group near you...
