Animal Boarding Establishment Licence

Licensing

Animal Boarding Establishment Licence

All boarding establishments for dogs and cats need to be licensed by the Council.

Tameside MBC issue licences to proprietors of boarding establishments under the provisions of the Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963.

The licence can stipulate a number of conditions to secure the following objectives:

  • That dogs and cats are kept in accommodation suitable in respect of construction, size, temperature, lighting, ventilation and cleanliness
  • That dogs and cats are adequately supplied with suitable food and drink
  • That dogs and cats are visited at suitable intervals
  • That dogs and cats are kept secure
  • That reasonable precautions are taken to prevent the spread of infectious diseases
  • That appropriate steps are taken in the event of an emergency
  • That a suitable and consistent level of management is maintained

The Environmental Health Section inspects Animal Boarding Establishments for conditions and legal compliance. For further information or if you have concerns about conditions at a particular establishment contact the Environmental Health Section on 0161 342 3467.

Paying for your Licence

Once your application has been accepted and the fee has been paid, the Licensing Section will arrange for an inspection of your premises to be carried out by the Environmental Health Section. Once the inspection has been completed, a report is submitted to the Licensing Section for their action.

Once the report has been received, and there are no objections to the application, the Licence is then issued.

If objections are received, then the Licensing Section will prepare a report which will be considered at the next meeting of the Speakers Panel, which you, as the applicant, will be invited to attend, along with a representative, if you wish.

We look forward to receiving your application and, if you have any difficulty with any of the forms or have any questions regarding this matter, please contact us.
