Tameside Lifelong Learning Partnership

Tameside MBC has been proactive in its response to lifelong learning issues and formed Tameside Lifelong Learning Partnership 4 years ago. The formation of the Partnership was as a direct consequence of the realisation that lifelong learning was the key to addressing many of the issues that Tameside faces such as promoting sustainable employment, developing and enhancing skills relevant to local employment opportunities, identifying and addressing gaps in lifelong learning opportunities and promoting social inclusion.

The Partnership has a mission statement which is

"vision for lifelong learning in Tameside is to create a society where learning is valued, is easily accessible to all and promotes the economic cultural and social health of our community.

Tameside Lifelong Learning Partnership was formed and chaired by the Chief Executive of the Council, to formulate a strategy for lifelong learning in the Borough.

The partners currently include:

  • Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council
    • Chief Executive;
    • officers from
      • Education and Cultural Services;
      • Corporate Services;
      • Economic and Property Services

The Lifelong Learning Partnership benefits from a high profile within the Council and the Borough. There is synergy between the Partnership's actions and many other initiatives within the Borough such as etameside, an ICT strategy for the Borough which has an elearning strand that is reflected in the Partnership Action Plan. Actions from the Partnership are also included in Tameside MBC's Board Action Plan, Social Exclusion Plan and Community Plan. The Partnership is represented at a City Pride (Manchester, Salford, Tameside and Trafford) level in the Strategic Lifelong Learning Partnership. The Council takes an holistic view of lifelong learning which translates as a whole Authority approach. The Partnership believes that socio-economic issues can only be tackled effectively at that level.

The Partnership's current action plan (April 2001 - March 2002) and the minutes of our recent Partnership meetings are available for information.
