Manual Handling Services

We provide a wide range of training, support, advice and risk assessment in manual handling. This is delivered in partnership with Tameside & Glossop Primary Care Trust  This training is to ensure that all care providers are able to mee the Statutory Health and Safety requirements for their staff group.

Training

Training can be accessed through the Workforce Development Unit and may be subject to a charge. We provide training to the following people;

• Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust Staff
• All TMBC Staff
• Private Agencies
• Individuals

Assessments

This Service is provided to Tameside residents who meet the eligibility criteria

Advice

Manual Handling Advice is always available from either the Training Officers or the Manual Handling Assessors. See below for contact details.

Equipment

A manual handling plan, may result in a range of equipment being issued.
Formal carers (paid) will use this equipment and they will follow a handling plan. Advice from the manual handling team is available.

Informal (unpaid) carers use manual handling equipment. It is usual for Occupational Therapy to provide advice but occasionally it may be provided by the manual handling assessors.

How can I get a manual handling assessment?

The first step is to contact Adult Services. You will need to explain what difficulties you are having. You will also be asked for the name of your GP and your date of birth.

If you prefer, you can ask a friend or relative to make contact on your behalf.

Referrals for manual handling assessments that are not internal to Tameside are sent to the Primary Contact Service.
