Welcome to the official Blog of the Civic Mayor of Tameside

A Blog (or a Weblog) is an online journal/diary which is frequently updated with the author's thoughts and comments, and is intended for the general public to view.

Week Commencing Monday 15 August 2011

Hello again,

Mayoral engagements this week began on Monday afternoon when I attended a Citizenship Ceremony at Dukinfield Town Hall.

On Wednesday morning, I was due to attend a family Fun Day in Cedar Park, Ashton at the invitation of the Friends of the Park. Sadly, I wasn’t feeling very well and had to send my apologies to this event. It promised to be a great day and I’m sure everything went well.

The Deputy Mayor was able to cover my engagement on Wednesday afternoon and kindly offered a warm welcome on my behalf to Marie Sauvee, a French student from Montigny-le-Bretonneux who was visiting the Borough whilst on a work placement at Tameside Radio Link to External Website.

On Sunday afternoon, Kieran and I were delighted to be able to attend the annual Mottram Show Link to External Website . This much loved, traditional family event featured horses, cattle, poultry, handicrafts and horticultural displays. The day was well attended and it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the show together.

This will be my last Blog for a little while as I am going to take a couple of weeks off.

Enjoy the rest of the summer, keep safe and I look forward to seeing you again in September.

Best wishes.

Sue

Week Commencing Monday 8 August 2011

Hello again,

My official duties began this week with a visit to Astley Cheetham Art Gallery in Stalybridge to view paintings from the Council’s permanent art collection.

We really do have some lovely pieces of work in the collection and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to look through them and to select a small number of pictures to go on display in the Mayor’s Parlour at Ashton Town Hall.

On Tuesday morning I was invited to visit our local hospice, Willow Wood Link to External Website . As many of you will know, I have chosen Willow Wood as one of my Mayoral charities this year and it was an honour for me to be able to visit the hospice and to meet some of the wonderful staff and volunteers who work there.

On Thursday afternoon, I welcomed to the Mayor’s Parlour a dedicated team of Tameside employees who recently took part in the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride in aid of Willow Wood Hospice. ‘Team Tameside’ managed to raise in excess of £1000 for the charity and I felt it only fitting to take the opportunity to say thank you and well done for their efforts.

On Sunday afternoon, Kieran and I visited the Indian Community Centre on Union Road in Ashton where we joined members of the local community in celebrating the Hindu Festival of Raksha Bandhan Link to External Website  – a celebration of brotherhood and love. We were made to feel very welcome and it was lovely to take part and to see so many families coming together to celebrate this special occasion.

From here, we headed over to Dukinfield Allotments for the Society’s annual show. Despite the damp weather, spirits remained high and Kieran and I really enjoyed looking round and chatting to those involved.

And that brings another Mayoral week to a close.

Thank you for your time. Please join me again soon.

Best wishes.

Sue

Week Commencing Monday 1 August 2011

Hello again, thank you for joining me.

Engagements have been very quiet this week due to the summer holidays.

My only engagements of the week were surrounding the visit by the Entente Florale Link to External Website Judges on Monday 1 August,

Kieran and I met the judges at Hyde Park first thing on Monday morning where we took the opportunity to formally welcome them once again to Tameside and to wish them well for a happy and successful day.

They certainly had a full programme ahead of them and I am sure they must have been impressed by the tremendous amount of hard work that has been put in by everybody involved with Tameside’s entry into the competition.

In the evening, we met the judges again for Dinner at Dukinfield Town Hall. It had been a long day for them but it was nice to be able to thank them for their visit to Tameside and to wish them well as they prepared to leave early the following morning.

And that’s it for this week.

Thank you for your time.

Best wishes.

Sue
