Week Commencing Monday 30 May 2011
Hello everyone, thank you for joining me.
As you are probably aware this is only my second week in office.
Engagements this week have been quiet although I understand this is very usual for the start of a Mayoral term of office.
I have had just one official engagement and this was on Wednesday evening when I attended the ‘Pride of Tameside Volunteer Awards’
at Ashton Town Hall.
The event, organised by the Volunteer Centre Tameside
, was staged as part of the National Volunteers Week Celebrations in order to highlight and celebrate the achievement and dedication of our local volunteers. Bronze (100 hours), silver (200 hours) and gold certificates (500 hours) were awarded to volunteers to formally recognise their commitment to volunteering and it was my pleasure to present eleven outstanding achievement awards to people who have demonstrated extraordinary levels of dedication and generosity of time.
It was a wonderful event and I was delighted to be able to lend my support and to extend my thanks to some of the borough’s unsung heroes who really are ‘the Pride of Tameside’.
And that’s it for this week.
I hope to see you again soon.
Best wishes.

Week Commencing Tuesday 24 May 2011
Hello, thank you for joining me for my very fist Mayoral blog.
I was extremely proud to be installed as the new Civic Mayor of Tameside at the Annual Meeting of the Council held on Tuesday 24 May 2011.
I am really looking forward to the year ahead and to carrying out my official duties with my husband and Mayoral Consort, Kieran, Executive Leader of Tameside Council and also with the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress, Councillor Joe Kitchen and his wife, Shirley.
I am particularly looking forward to meeting as many community groups as possible during my year in office and to visiting local businesses. I intend to work very hard over the coming months and hope you can be proud of what I achieve.
My first official engagement was to attend and to Chair the Annual General Meeting of the Tameside South District Scouts. As Civic Mayor, I take on the position of President of the Scout District for the ensuing year. I was pleased to attend the meeting and delighted to have the opportunity to extend my thanks and congratulations for past achievements and also to offer my good wishes for the year ahead.
On Thursday afternoon, Kieran and I were invited to visit Apropos Tectonic Ltd
. The company, who are based in Ashton, have recently opened a new Polyester Powder Coating Plant in Dukinfield. It was my honour to perform the official opening of the new building and to unveil a plaque to commemorate the occasion. Apropos produces bespoke aluminium and glass structures, the opening of the new plant means that all powder coating can now be undertaken in-house, providing jobs and further investment for the local economy. It was wonderful to be able to celebrate the success of one our local companies especially during this difficult economic period.
And that brings my first week in office to an end.
Thank you for joining me. I hope you will join me again soon.
Best wishes.
