At 7.00 p.m. the Mayor's Attendant will announce the entry of the Civic Mayor and the meeting will commence with the Civic Mayor presiding. He will be accompanied on the Mayoral dais by the Acting Chief Executive. (The Civic Mayor Elect will be outside the Council Chamber).

Civic Mayor's Announcements
Agenda Item 13
The Retiring Civic Mayor will call upon Councillor Joe Kitchen to propose the formal motion for the election of Civic Mayor.
Motion to Elect Civic Mayor
Councillor Joe Kitchen to move –
"That Councillor John Bernard Sullivan, be and is hereby elected civic Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside for the ensuing municipal year".
Proposer's Speech in Support
Councillor Kitchen will then proceed with his speech in support of the Civic Mayor Elect's nomination.
Seconder
At the conclusion of Councillor Kitchen’s speech the Retiring Civic Mayor will call upon Councillor Jim Fitzpatrick to second the formal motion as moved by Councillor Kitchen.
Motion Put
After the motion has been put and carried, the Proposer and Seconder will leave the Council Chamber to advise the Civic Mayor Elect.
Mayoral Chain and Badge of Office
The Chains of Office will be removed from the Retiring Civic Mayor and Mayoress and the Deputy Mayor and Consort by the Mayor's Attendant and placed on the desk.
Mayor's Attendant
The Mayor's Attendant will then leave the Council Chamber for the Civic Mayor Elect.
Escort of Civic Mayor-Elect to Chamber
The Civic Mayor Elect, robed but without any Insignia of Office will be escorted into the Council Chamber by the Proposer and Seconder, preceded by the Mayor's Attendant. Upon reaching the dais, the Retiring Civic Mayor will inform Councillor Sullivan of the Council's resolution to elect him as Civic Mayor of Tameside for the ensuing year and will congratulate him upon his election. (The Proposer and Seconder return to their seats).
Civic Mayor's Investiture
The Retiring Civic Mayor (assisted by the Mayor's Attendant) will place the Chain of Office on the shoulders of Councillor Sullivan and after shaking hands and pausing for any photographs to be taken, will then take the seat provided for him in the Council Chamber.
Declaration
The Acting Chief Executive will present the book containing the Declaration of Acceptance of Office which Councillor Sullivan will audibly read and sign. It will then be attested by the Acting Chief Executive.
Investiture of the Mayoress
The Mayor's Attendant will then assist the Civic Mayor to invest his Mayoress with the Chain of Office. Photographs to be taken.
Civic Mayor's Speech
The investiture completed, the Civic Mayor will then express his thanks for the honour and privilege bestowed upon him and make such other remarks as he desires.
Agenda Item 14
The Civic Mayor will call upon Councillor Michael Smith to propose the formal motion for the appointment of Deputy Mayor.
Motion to Appoint Deputy Mayor
Councillor Michael Smith to propose -
"That Councillor Susan Quinn be and is hereby appointed Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Tameside for the ensuing municipal year"
Councillor Michael Smith will then proceed with his speech in support of that nomination.
Seconder
Thereafter, the Civic Mayor will call upon Councillor Andrew Doubleday to second the formal motion as moved by Councillor Michael Smith.
Motion Put
The Civic Mayor, to put the motion.
Councillor Susan Quinn will leave her chair and the Civic Mayor will invest her with the Deputy Mayor’s Badge of Office assisted by the Mayor’s Attendant. Photographs to be taken.
Declaration
Councillor Susan Quinn will then make and sign the requisite Declaration of Acceptance of Office to be presented to her by the Acting Chief Executive after which she will return to her seat in the Chamber.
Investiture of the Deputy Mayor’s Consort
The Civic Mayor assisted by the Mayor’s Attendant will then invest Councillor Kieran Quinn with the Consort’s Badge of Office. Photographs to be taken.
Deputy Mayor's Response
The Deputy Mayor may then say a few words.
Agenda Item 15
Vote of Thanks to Retiring Mayoralty
The Civic Mayor to propose a Vote of Thanks to the retiring Mayoralty, such proposal to be seconded by Councillor Jacqueline Lane.
Agenda Item 16
Presentation to Retiring Mayoralty
The Civic Mayor will then make presentations, on the Council's behalf, of Medallions and Certificate to the Retiring Civic Mayor and Mayoress, Councillor Jack Davis and Mrs Carole Davis and Certificate to the Retiring Deputy Mayor and Consort, Councillor Brenda Warrington and Mr Graham Warrington. Photographs will be taken after each of the presentations.

Retiring Mayor's Response
At this juncture, the Retiring Civic Mayor and Retiring Deputy Mayor should be given the opportunity of making any suitable response.
Close of Meeting
At this juncture the Civic Mayor will formally close the Annual Meeting
Closing Prayers
The Civic Mayor’s Chaplain, Father Denis Maher to offer closing Prayers.
Departure of Mayoral Party upon Closure of Meeting
The Mayor's Attendant will thereafter lead the Civic Mayor from the Council Chamber to be followed by the Mayoress, the Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor’s Consort, the Civic Mayor's Chaplain and the Acting Chief Executive.
They will process into the Civic Hall to receive their guests, where light refreshments will be served.
