If the Government thinks that we’ve had a loud voice, they’ve heard a loud voice in anger against their opposition, they’ve heard nothing yet. We haven’t even whispered to them yet the anger that the Greater Manchester population has, the Droylsden people have and the Tameside people have. And we’re going to shout even louder and clearer to the Government you’ve got this wrong. Everyone can make a mistake but what we’re saying to you now is admit that you’ve made a mistake and lets get the money that we need to bring Metrolink back on track and into our area.

Roger Jones (Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority): I may be proud of being a Labour Party member but I’m certainly not proud of the decision the government have made on Metrolink. And I intend to fight them every inch of the way and we have to demand that that one billion pound of investment doesn’t go to London, doesn’t go elsewhere, it comes here to Greater Manchester.
Thank you.
Peter Martin (Chair of Tame Valley Partnership): There are hundreds of companies in Tameside and if the Metro does not go ahead then they will have lost, the smaller businesses particularly, would have lost a lot of their personal wealth because they invested for us in Tameside and their investment would be worth less. On behalf of the economy I stress that Phase 3 Metrolink investments in Manchester must go ahead.
Thank you for listening.
Thank you. Thank you.
David Heyes, MP: There is no question that the costs of Metrolink have escalated quite alarmingly in the recent times and that is being looked at and I think that it can be dealt with and I think that we can find a solution. So if we carry on talking, with the support of people in Tameside, Oldham, Rochdale and the whole of Greater Manchester, I’m absolutely convinced that we can force the Government to change their minds, and I will spare no effort in doing that.
Thank you so much for your support today.
People who have lived together for years have had to move house and the neighbours that they’ve actually got used to, they’ve had to start all over again because of this. And they’re having to have a new life but for what point… what was the purpose of it all? Its just been a lot of money that has been spent for no good reason.
