'Dig It' Exhibition at Portland Basin Museum
Dig It!
Portland Basin stepped back in time in summer 2006 to the land of the Pharaohs in this exhibition about Ancient Egypt. Objects from Portland Basin's own collection were on display alongside objects loaned from Bolton Museum and The Manchester Museum. Portland Basin’s collection consists of around 100 artefacts that were donated to the museum in 1932 by a private collector. The exhibition also featured local archaeological finds brought in by Tameside Archaeological Society, Greater Manchester Archaeological Unit and Friends of Gorse Hall. Highlights from Tameside’s Ancient Egypt collection can currently be seen on display at Astley Cheetham Art Gallery in Stalybridge.
