Exhibition

3 Artists; 3 Views

Paintings by Anthony Marn, John Trevor Trueman

& John MacDiarmid

7 October - 14 December 2011

This exhibition features work by three artists; two contemporary artists and one artist from the past.

All three artists share a love of the North West and their artworks are influenced by their local views and scenes.

Anthony Marn is fascinated by the historical and industrial past of Tameside but explores this through his own personal experiences growing up and being around his father. His hazy and rain filled scenes of men walking to and from the mills will evoke memories in many. Whilst his contemporary scenes of mill ruins blending in with new glass buildings, such as the Betham Tower in Manchester, make us all contemplate a past which seems to far away yet still very much present.

John Trevor Trueman’s inspiration is often from further afield such as New Orleans’ Jazz but it is the local area and its artists such as L.S. Lowry and Harry Rutherford who have persistently fuelled his passion for art and the theatre.

John MacDiarmid wasn’t originally from Tameside or even the North West, but he adopted Hyde and its surrounding areas as his home town after his marriage to Sarah in St George’s Church, Hyde. MacDiarmid worked as a lithographic artist in the area and contributed to books about Hyde. But it is perhaps for his watercolours of local landmarks he is now better known.
