We offer a wide range of activities and events for adults and children throughout the year.
Join Simon the Storyteller every Thursday during term time for an hour of fun, storytelling and crafts for preschool children. The session starts at 10am and is costs just £2 with £1 for additional siblings. No need to book, just drop in. These sessions are funded by AGMA (Association of Greater Manchester Authorities)

Adult Art Workshops
Adult Study Days. . Cost for all our study days is £30 or £25 concessions (proof of concession eligibility may be required) Spaces on these study days are limited and book up quickly so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
I made it! Adult Masterclass: Introduction to Willow Weaving
Learn all the skills required to make your own willow bird. Whether this is a pheasant or a chicken you will be able to create a bird to be proud of and happy to display within your home or garden or even gift to a friend. This workshop is open to all and no previous experience required. Led by professional willow weaving artist, Juliette Hamilton.

I made it! Adult Masterclass: “Ceramic Christmas bauble-making and decoration” In this workshop, which is led by Clay Studio of Manchester, you’ll be introduced to slip casting.
You’ll learn the process of using liquid clay and moulds to make baubles for Christmas. Afterwards there will be a range of decorating techniques including coloured slips to finish off your festive creation.
Astley Cheetham Gallery, Trinity Street, Stalybridge, SK15 2BN on Saturday, November 19, 10am to 2.30pm. Please note on completion baubles will be taken to ‘Clay Studio’ for final firing and returned to Portland Basin Museum for collection in plenty of time for Christmas
Reminisce about days gone by. Enjoy the here and now. Using objects, photographs and documents from the museum service’s collections we can offer sessions on the following themes, with more coming soon:
