Greener Museums and Galleries

Member of staff cycling home

Tameside Museums and Galleries Service is committed to embedding green practices into all the work that it undertakes and commissions. Here are a few examples of some of the actions we have taken so far:

  • Dramatically reduced printing volumes by making increasing amounts of material available on-line; leaflets.
  • Ensuring we recycle as much plastic, paper and other recyclable materials as possible across our sites.
  • Confirming all portable appliances; kettles, are as energy efficient as possible.
  • Ensuring lights and all electrical appliances are turned-off in rooms that are not in-use.
  • ‘Green’ labels introduced at Portland Basin that compliment displays highlighting environmental issues.
  • Used exhibitions programme to promote a great public awareness of green issues.
