We are now on the official countdown to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
And the Council, its partners and local business are working hard to make sure the Games leave both a sporting and cultural legacy for the residents of Tameside.

How will you be inspired?
A big part of the London 2012 Olympic bid was that the Games would bring sport and culture together ‘like never before’. We want everyone in Tameside to feel part of London 2012 and there is lots of exciting opportunities for people to get involved in the run up to the start of the Games.

London Olympic Torch Relay
Ashton has been announced as a town on the Torch Relay route. It will be carried through on Sunday 24 June 2012.
Free Swimming for under 5’s
To celebrate the Games Tameside Sports Trust is offering free swimming throughout 2012 for all under 5’s

Volunteering Opportunities
If the Olympics has inspired you to become a volunteer and you have a few spare hours, the Tameside Volunteer Centre
based in Ashton, can provide you with all the information you need on volunteering opportunities in Tameside.
Your personal pledge
We want the forthcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games to inspire people in Tameside to get involved in sport and cultural activities.
To help you do this we have set up a pledge page where you can share your aspirations with others. You don’t have to be sporty, there are plenty of other ways to enrich your life with many of the cultural events and activities on offer.
