Tameside Parks Moving Forward
This is an exciting time for Tameside's Parks with improvements being made across the Borough.
This year the Council was awarded ten Green Flags by the Civic Trust - an increase of 2 from 2007. This is something to celebrate, especially when you consider that all the flags have to be reapplied for each year and therefore could be lost.
This year's Green Flag winners are:
- Victoria Park, Denton
- Ryecroft Hall, Audenshaw
- Haughton Green Playing Fields
- Hyde Park
- Oxford Park, Ashton-under-Lyne
- Cedar Park, Ashton-under-Lyne
- Park Bridge Country Park, Ashton-under-Lyne
- Werneth Low Country Park, Hyde
- Lymefield Country Park, Broadbottom
- Denton Cemetery.
Victoria Park has also been recognised by the trust by being awarded the green Heritage Award for its outstanding contribution to the area.
The Council also supported 5 community groups who received Green Pennant Awards for managing high quality green spaces. The Green Pennant winners are:
- Bailey's Backs, Brushes Estate, Stalybridge
- Gorse Hall, Stalybridge
- Bowling Green and Community Centre at Haughton Green Playing Fields
- Tame Valley Community Green, Dukinfield
- Ashton West End Doorstep Green
In Ashton, Cedar Park, Oxford Park and West End Park have seen improvement works over the past year.
Stamford Park is set for a major facelift after the public were consulted on an improvement wish list.
The raft of exciting developments was put together follwing extensive consultation with various groups and individuals who enjoy using the park facilities.
The National Lottery has announced that Stamford Park is on track for a major transformation with a £203,500 development grant to back up the exciting regeneration plans
