Strategic Planning is at the heart of the Council’s vision to improve the quality of life in Tameside. Through the existing Unitary Development Plan (UDP) and the emerging Local Development Framework (LDF) the service develops and applies policies that aim to secure the sustainable development of the Borough.

Documents within the Local Development Framework provide the long-term plan for Tameside and contain policies for sustainable development across the Borough. The information below shows the current documents and information within the Tameside LDF.

We collect information on the floorspace of major retail developments in Tameside.
We collect information on industrial and commercial development completions and land supply in Tameside.
We collect information on residential completions and housing land supply, including the Councils five year supply, published as part of the Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment.

Conservation Areas in Tameside vary, ranging from historic town centres to industrial and rural villages. Policies in the Conservation section generally presume against the loss of features which add to the special interest of the areas.
The 'list' of buildings of special architectural or historic interest is a register, compiled by English Heritage recording the best of British Buildings. It comprises a wide variety of structure, from castles and cathedrals to milestones and village pumps.
Trees which are important for public enjoyment may be protected and you will need to make an application to the Council for works to a tree that is protected or within a Conservation Area.
