Core Strategy Evidence Base

The first stage in the production of the Core Strategy of the Local Development Framework is currently underway. It is a requirement of the new planning system that the preparation of the Core Strategy must be informed by an up-to-date evidence base on key aspects of the social, economic and environmental characteristics of an area. A number of research projects detailed below have been undertaken or are underway, which look at local and sub regional factors that can influence development in Tameside.

• Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report;
• Retail Needs Study completed December 2005 (Revision Expected Feb 2010);
• Recreation and Open Space Needs and Demand Study (Publication expected Feb 2010); 
• Citizen 2000 Panel Wave 5 Market Research 333.29 KB completed January 2006;
• Citizens' Forum on Key Council Services "The 15 Year Plan for Tameside" completed March 2006; 
• Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (Consultations Feb/March 2010);
• Making Housing Count in the Manchester City Region; ;
• Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (Due Feb 2010);
• A Housing Needs and Demand Study;
• Affordable Housing Economic Viability Assessment (Due early 2010); 
• Employment Land Market Analysis (Expected Feb 2010);
• Employment Land Review (Expected Feb 2010);
• Greater Manchester Employment Land Position Statement;
• Regional and Sub Regional Planning Context Statement for Tameside (Early 2010);
• Greater Manchester and Tameside Transport Assessments (Due to be published Jan/Feb 2010);
• Biodiversity Action Plan ;
• Infrastructure Planning (due to commence after April 2010);
• Built Conservation Area Assessments (consultation due in the new year);
• Greater Manchester Renewable Energy Study (to be published soon);
• Joint Strategic Health Needs Assessment  - This report may inform decisions about healthy environments, design and other health related planning matters.

Work is currently underway in preparation for the first stage of public consultation on the Core Strategy as set out in the Local Development Scheme. Further details on the Core Strategy will appear on this website in due course.
