Core Strategy Evidence Base

The first stage in the production of the Core Strategy of the Local Development Framework is currently underway. It is a requirement of the new planning system that the preparation of the Core Strategy must be informed by an up-to-date evidence base on key aspects of the social, economic and environmental characteristics of an area. A number of research projects detailed below have been undertaken or are underway, which look at local and sub regional factors that can influence development in Tameside.

• Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report completed November 2005;
• Retail Needs Study completed December 2005;
• Green-space Needs Survey completed October 2005;
• Citizen 2000 Panel Wave 5 Market Research 333.29 KB completed January 2006;
• Citizens' Forum on Key Council Services "The 15 Year Plan for Tameside" completed March 2006;
• Employment Land Situation Report for 2007/08, published Dec 2008;
• Spatial Analysis of Local Strategies;
• Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment currently accepting submissions up to the 13th March 2009;
• Making Housing Count in the Manchester City Region;
• Strategic Flood Risk Assessment;
• A Housing Needs and Demand Study;
• Housing Demand Study;
• Employment Land Needs Study.

Work is currently underway in preparation for the first stage of public consultation on the Core Strategy as set out in the Local Development Scheme. Further details on the Core Strategy will appear on this website in due course.
