Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
A key objective of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 is to strengthen community involvement in the planning system. The Council has now adopted a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) explaining how it will involve the community in the preparation of new planning documents and the consideration of planning applications.
In November 2005 the Submission Draft version of the SCI was submitted to the appointed Planning Inspector for an independent examination. At the same time a six-week period of formal public consultation took place and the comments received were reported in the Representation Statement and considered by the Inspector. The Council received the Inspector's binding report on the 2nd May 2006, in which he concluded that, subject to certain changes, the SCI was a sound document.
After making the relevant changes to the document recommended by the Inspector, the Council formally adopted the SCI on 11th July 2006.
The SCI now forms part of the Council's Local Development Framework.
