Safety at Sports Grounds
Tameside is home to a number of non-league football clubs. Building Control provides a comprehensive service in respect of Safety at Sports Ground legislation at these and other sports grounds.
Unlike Football League and Premiership grounds these clubs do not require a full safety certificate for their grounds but regular inspections are made in respect of Regulated Stands at the grounds. These large covered seated and standing areas are required to have safety certificates and Building Control work with the Fire Authority to determine the safe number of spectators that can be accommodated in these parts of the grounds.
When games are likely to attract large crowds Building Control take a lead role in the Safety Team, which includes Police, Fire Authority, Ambulance Service and other Council services to ensure that they are run safely.
All sports ground owners and event organisers are advised to notify Building Control when planned events are likely to take place and in particular when they may attract above average crowds.
