Cardboard added to kerbside recycling collections
Recyling in Tameside is now even easier following the introduction of Kerbside cardboard collections.
Cardboard and Tetra-Pak cartons can now be added alongside paper into your blue bin - which will be emptied every four weeks, instead of eight, to allow for the extra volume.
It is expected the improved facility will help the borough recycle an extra 5000 tonnes of waste a year - the equivalent to saving 120,000 trees.
It should also help the borough achieve its recycling targets of 35% in 2010 and 40% by 2011.
The following items can now be recycled in your blue bin:
- Newspapers
- Cardboard
- Tetra-Pak Cartons
- Magazines
- Junk Mail
- Blue Telephone Directories
- Yellow Pages
- Envelopes
- Catalogues
- Letters and general paper
- Yellow Pages
Tameside Council executive member for environmental services Cllr Catherine Piddington said: “Recycling is a very important aspect of our waste management and this improved service will make it even easier for households to recycle even more of their waste and should further help our joint efforts to reduce the amounts of waste we send to landfill sites.”
