Museum of the Manchester Regiment wins top tourism award
Tameside's Museum of the Manchester Regiment has scooped top prize in the prestigious Marketing Manchester Tourism Awards 2009
.
The museum, which charts the story of the Manchester Regiment soldiers, was voted best ‘small visitor attraction’ in Greater Manchester.
Hosted by television and theatre actress Sally Lindsay, the award ceremony attracted an audience of the region’s most influential tourism representatives.
The judges were delighted with the customer service which they received saying: “The museum scored a fantastic 100% on the mystery shop - which is a great achievement. The interactive elements in the museum really bring the history of Manchester to life.”
“Within the museum we tell the story of generations of Manchester Regiment men, women and children, through over 250 years of service to crown and country”, said Garry Smith, the Curator of the Museum. “Tameside should be very proud of all its museums and art galleries”.
Emma Varnam, head of museums and galleries in Tameside said: ”We have worked hard in the past few years to make the museums and galleries in Tameside fun and exciting places to visit and this award is a wonderful celebration of all the hard work which the team has done to transform our venues."
The museum now goes through to the North West Tourist Board
finals, to be held later this year.
The new Rutherford Gallery in Hyde and Setantii: Tales of Tameside, also housed in Ashton Town Hall, were also shortlisted for awards.
