Keep saving those Trees!
Keep saving those Trees!
Tameside has recycled enough paper since 1994 to save a forest nearly half the size of the borough.
Now households and businesses are being urged to keep saving those trees by also recycling their cardboard and drinks cartons (Tetra paks) along with paper in their blue bins.
It is hoped that the extra effort could help the borough raise its recycling rate, which currently stands at 35 per cent, to 40 per cent in the next year. Not only is recycling beneficial to the environment, it helps to keep down council tax by cutting the cost of sending waste to landfill.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Environmental Services Cllr Catherine Piddington said: ““People have really changed their habits over recent years and are now recycling more than ever before. They are doing a fantastic job but it’s now time to go that extra mile and make sure as little as possible goes in the black bin and to landfill which could be recycled.”
As well as collecting cardboard, Tetra paks and paper (blue bins) the council collects garden waste (brown bins) and glass, plastic bottles and cans (green bins).
Residents are reminded to check their calendars for collection dates and ensure their bins are placed out ready for collection at 7am.
