Tameside Open Brass Band Championships 2011: Results

Brass band contest hits top note

Tameside bands claimed a couple of second places but were unable to take a title at Sunday’s Tameside Open Brass Band Championships at Dukinfield Town Hall.

Promoted by Tameside Council, the event attracted competitors from both sides of the Pennines. The adjudicators were Mike Kilroy and Paul Andrews.

Ashton-under-Lyne came second in the championship section, two points behind Oldham (Lees). Mossley were runners-up in the second section, one point adrift of Tyldesley.

Cllr John Sullivan, Tameside Council’s Assistant Executive Member for Music, Culture and Performing Arts, and a one-time euphonium soloist and brass band musical director, said: “This year’s entry levels were the highest we have seen in 15 years. I am delighted that a contest of such high calibre and prestige has once again taken place in the borough.”

Next on Tameside's brass band calendar are the Whit Friday contests on 17 June.
