Bronze Map
Bronze Heritage Map Unveiled
The first in a series of bronze maps highlighting the borough's rich heritage was unveiled in Mottram on Tuesday (10th July 2007).
Each of Tameside's 19 wards is set to get one which is unique to the area where they are sited. They will be a great opportunity for tourists and local residents alike to learn more about where they live as well as the importance of buildings and landmarks in their area.
Unlike conventional maps the commissioned works will not detail every road and building in the locality, rather they will highlight those which have formed part of the area's heritage.
The maps are the latest step by Council heritage bosses to showcase the borough's heritage, following on from the well-received bronze statues which are now firmly fixed in towns across Tameside as part of an ongoing project.
Hattersley and Longdendale District Assembly Chair, Cllr Sean Parker-Perry said: "These maps are an important example to young and old alike of what defines the place where they live. I hope residents take a keen interest in what their dedicated map has to say, I'm sure people will be surprised to see what rich heritage they have or have had right on their doorstep."
