Bronze Heritage Map Unveiled
Bronze Heritage Map Unveiled
The second in a planned series of 19 bronze heritage maps has been unveiled in Ashton.
The Waterloo map on Oldham Road at the War Memorial site was uncovered by Project Head of Heritage, Councillor Jackie Lane and includes heritage pointers from the area such as details of its connection to the battle of Waterloo and the story of local man and wrestling legend James 'Barrel' Matley.
The bronze also includes details on the Daisy Nook area of the town and of course Park Bridge ironworks which, it has been said, produced the rivets for the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Eiffel Tower.
Head of heritage Cllr Jackie Lane said: "I am pleased to announce the unveiling of the second of these bronze maps in Tameside, with a third in the not too distant pipeline.
"Along with the statues and sculptures we are introducing, this latest unveiling clearly demonstrates our continued pursuit to bring public art to every area within the borough."
