Free Parking During Stalybridge Works
Press Release Date: 31 January 2012
Shoppers will be able to park for 2 hours free in Stalybridge's Castle Street Car Park to help relieve the disruption of long-term road works in the town centre.
Tameside Council will provide two hours free parking to ease concerns that the United Utilities
essential sewer maintenance works, due to last six months, could adversely affect trade.
Executive Member for Transport and Development Cllr Peter Robinson, who announced the offer after holding talks with Stalybridge and Hyde MP Jonny Reynolds
and United Utilities, said: "We understand traders' concerns that a closed road may be inconvenient to business and we hope the offer of two hour's free parking in Castle Street Car Park will encourage shoppers and visitors to still come into the town during the period of works."
The work will see Corporation Street closed to traffic between Stamford Street and Cornmill Lane. Armentieres Square will be open to all vehicles and traffic will also be allowed to drive both ways on what is currently the one-way section of Corporation Street to help ease traffic flow during this period.
