Mayor’s music fits the bill

 19th March 2010
7.30pm at Ashton Town Hall

Photo of The Mayor, Cllr John SullivanA piece of music composed by Tameside Mayor Cllr John Sullivan is to be performed as part of a prestigious concert at Ashton Town Hall.

The event will feature the internationally acclaimed countertenor James Bowman as well as a number of other celebrated artists.

In hosting the event, the mayor aims to bring world-class music to the heart of the local community while also raising funds for local good causes through his charity appeal fund.

The concert, to be held at 7.30pm on March 19th, is in line with Cllr Sullivan’s ongoing efforts as the council’s Musical and Choral attaché and chair of Hyde District Assembly to bring live music to the borough.

He said: “This concert is a real coup for Tameside - it is not often we have the chance to appreciate such first class performers right on our own doorstep.

“I want to make it as easy as possible for all people, young and old, to come along and enjoy a wonderful evening of music. Ashton Town Hall is a super venue and the price has been set to make it as affordable as possible for all.”

Cllr Sullivan’s composition ‘Joie-de-Vivre’ has been arranged for recorder, cello and harpsichord.

He said: “I’m very honoured to have this short work included in such a fine programme. It was written as a tribute to one of the performers on the evening, the internationally renowned recorder player John Turner, in recognition of his commitment to promoting British music and musicians.”

Tickets, priced at £10, are available from Ashton Town Hall and Tameside Tourist Information Centre. For further information please contact the Mayor’s Office on 0161 342 3087
