Special Schools Orienteering
Pupils Navigate Successfully at Orienteering Festival
10th October 2007
Tameside Sports Development, in conjunction with the School Sports Partnership, ran an adapted orienteering competition with Cromwell High School and 16 pupils from Samuel Laycock on Wednesday, 10th October.
Using Year 11 students as leaders from Samuel Laycock along with year 7, 8 and 9 pupils competing.
All were buddied up in pairs and given maps to negotiate their way around a short course surrounding the school. Children were then asked to do the course individually and competed against each other.
This was the first ever special schools’ competition in orienteering with another one pencilled in for Easter on the back of this success.
"The orienteering was a fantastic success that everyone thoroughly enjoyed. Seeing some of our pupils working with Cromwell pupils was excellent and encouraging. We will definitely be organising events like this again!" (Ernie Greenwood - PE Teacher, Samuel Laycock).
